Customer reviews
Nifty and Useful
by .. Martin Ricci ()
There are only two other reviews for this product here on Amazon.com and very little information out there on the web. To be honest, this product has been unfairly reviewed and I am here to offer insight on what this product really is.
First off, this is a full computer; a touch screen computer yes, but you have a full operating system with all the bells and whistles. If you are buying this as a kitchen computer or television, there are better products out there, but if you are buying this product for what it is--then you will thoroughly enjoy yourself.
I am a college student with three (now four) computers so I know what I am talking about when I say: this is one of the better things I have ever bought. The Windows 7 Home Premium operating system is definitely a step up from the horrendous Windows Vista. It is stable and I have yet to have any issues with it. Let's just say it gets the job done when it comes to be 2 AM Sunday night and I realize I have an essay due in a few hours.
But it is not just a good workhorse of a computer. The touch screen capabilities make it a wonderful media PC--flipping through photos and drawing on Adobe Illustrator with your fingers is just some of the fruits you will enjoy with this PC. On top of that the HDMI port makes it a great HD Television set for those Friday nights where you just want to sit back with friends and play a good xbox video game. I noticed that one of the reviews mentioned that you are unable to switch in and out of the computer display and HDMI input display--that you physically have to unplug the HDMI cable to use your computer again. This man (or woman) must have no knowledge of his computer, with a couple of quick presses on the main panel you can switch in and out of the computer and HDMI display--A nice feature when your looking up last minute strategies before trying to take down your friends in a video game.
Alas, the ASUS EeeTop ET2002T comes with no stylus, but I happen to have quite a few laying around the house. A stylus is quite necessary in the Windows operating system. Even though you can enlarge icons and such, it is sometimes difficult to take your finger to a scroll bar and scroll down (there is no multi-touch or one-finger scroll so this is the only option). Also on this note, there is no touch GUI or similar interface to this EeeTop--unlike the 16** series which offers the recognizable ASUS Easy Mode that first appeared on the original Eee PC.
All in all the ASUS EeeTop ET2002T is a great product if you are buying it for the right intentions. This is no simple kitchen computer and a lot of its features will have gone to waste if you treat it as such. This a high powered computer that is as quite as a sleeping baby. If you are looking for a great little computer with good capabilities and nifty features, this is the product for you.
Great All In One
by .. Alfred Paolucci Jr. (Shorewood, IL)
This is a very nice computer. It is in my daughter's room, since I bought it for her 13th birthday. I have read the earlier reviews, and used an HDMI switch to make sure no signal was going to the screen when her cable box is off. Now, when she wants to watch tv, she hits "1" on the HDMI switch, and the screen turns on. I agree that it would have been nicer to have a power button for the screen, but my work around does just fine. As for the stylus, I drilled a small hole on the side of the keyboard, where the stylus should have gone, and found a stylus that fit the hole. I too was disappointed when some software was missing, namely the video viewing software, but my daughter doesn't seem to care. She loves it! Windows 7 works great, she is hooked up through wireless, so there are no wires to fumble with. It is a great system for a bedroom. The price is right where I wanted to pay for a computer and screen, but this all in one made the value even better with the touch screen!
It does what it was bought to do, just have a few issues with it
by .. Brandon L. Parker (Vegas)
I've had the system for almost 3 months now, and its purpose was to serve as a touch screen computer in the family room. I'm very pleased with the performance and Windows 7 is great. Everything was simple to set up and all in all it's done what it was purchased to do. I do, however, have a few minor problems with what did not come pre-installed on the unit. In other video reviews of the product it appears to come equipped with a keyboard with a stylus built in, I looked forward to this feature as the touch interface was one of the main components to be used on my device. So needless to say, I was a little disappointed when my keyboard didn't have this cool extra. And there is photo viewing software that seems to have a touch interface as well that didn't come installed on my system. It appears on the box and in other video reviews of my product but did not come on my system. Again, just another small let down as the product seems to be advertised with the feature. Ive contacted ASUS support on both of these issues and that's a joke. Your lucky to get a response back in 2 months, and when they finally do, it's just an apology that they can't help you with your issue. Overall my issues wouldn't prevent me from recommending the product, so just know these facts before you purchase it.
No Support and the HDMI Input is Not What You'd think it Is
by .. Tom F. Manting (Portland, MI USA)
I bought this computer to replace my kitchen television. I've been thinking for years that it would be great to have a PC in the kitchen for keeping track of recipes so a 1-piece unit that can sit on the counter and combines a PC with an HDMI input seems like a great idea. Right? Wrong.
For one, this is NOT a PC with an HDMI input. No this is more like a HD TV with an HDMI input and a PC attached to the back of it. You cannot watch the HDMI input in a window on the computer. In other words, there does not appear to be any interface between the HDMI in and the computer.
The PC part works fine. We enjoy the touch-screen features and Windows 7 is very nice compared to Vista and an easy transition from XP.
But using the HDMI input as a TV - that's a whole different story. First, to switch from PC to TV you need to navigate through 6 button pushes on the front panel. It's not exactly intuitive and the keyboard or mouse cannot be used to accomplish this. Secondly, there's no remote control! This makes this the most bare-bones TV sold in the US, I'm sure. The picture quality is beautiful and the sound is fine, but there's no way to control it unless you walk right up to the thing. Want to adjust the volume? Walk over there!
One other interesting "feature": the presence of signal on the HDMI input turns on the TV. So, if you have a DVR (like I do) that never really shuts off connected to the HDMI input, then the only way to turn off the TV is to unplug the HDMI cable or the computer. And did I mention there's no remote control?
Finally, about ASUS tech support: There is none. Since I bought it a month ago I've sent two emails via their "VIP" support center and posted an inquiry on ASUS' support forums. Nothing. Zip. Zero. Not a word back.
