Works perfectly, prompt delivery

My Mac charger packed up (Burnt through plastic coating!), I ordered this as a rush delivery on a Saturday afternoon and it arrived on Monday in New York. Great seller, product works perfectly including the magnetic release.
Works great!

When I received this product I was very surprised with the quality of it. I would say it is better than the original Apple product. It works excellent!
Meets minimal requirements

The good:
- It works
- It gives off about the same heat as the Apple OEM adapter, meaning it's about as efficient
- Price
The bad:
- System Profiler identifies it as a 60W adapter. I'm not sure if this makes a difference
- It can (roughly) fit the Apple power cable and mini plug, but these are not included, and the ground connection does not exist (it's just a round bit of plastic). So there's no way to ground it, although that probably isn't a big deal.
- It uses the old style T-shaped Magsafe connector, which tends to twist and cause fraying. The new barrel style connector is much more reliable.
- Sometimes the charging LED stays on after you disconnect the connector.
Overall, it's fine for a spare adapter, but I wouldn't recommend it for travelling. And hey, it costs about as much as a Magsafe wire by itself, so if it fails you can use it to repair a broken Apple adapter since those tend to break right next to the magsafe connector.
Not 85W
by .. Jonathan Hausmann (Boston, MA)
The item is not 85W as advertised. On a MacBook Pro, it does not carry enough energy to both power the computer and charge the battery at the same time. On System Profiler, it shows that it's actually a 60W adapter.
Apparently, it's a common strategy for companies that make adapters to sell ones that are underpowered....must be cheaper for them.
Adapter/Power Supply is NOT 85w..only 60w

About a year ago, I bought a replacement adapter for my Macbook Pro, just in case it went bad, I had heard some tales about the reliability of the adapters, and it seems they are the Achilles heel of the Apple laptops. They are pricey buggars, usually coming-in at $75 or so. My daughter's, though, went out before mine, and I let her have it, and I went looking for another one. After looking at several different ones here on Amazon, I found the prices varied from $20-80. Some, like this one, were obvious knock-offs, but I'd had knock-offs before. Others looked like Apple products because of the logo indention on the side, etc., but reviewers warned of them for various reasons: they didn't produce 85 watts, they didn't have a metal piece that you slide the plug under so that the metal case of your Apple laptop was grounded and you didn't get hum, etc.
After reading the reviews, and seeing this product had pretty good reviews, I bought it, even though it was one of those purchases one makes where you get the sense that "it was too good to be true." It was too good to be true. I check the current coming from the adapter/power supply (go to "About this Mac," click on "more information," and then click on "Power." It was producing only 60 watts. Also, the cord doesn't make use of the "metal" ground the original adapter/power supply had, and even if it did use the one that was on this one was plastic.
I E-mailed them through Amazon that the product only produced 60 watts and not 85 watts as in their description. They sent me a return authorization, and I sent it back, Certified. Four days later, I was refunded the price of it and my original shipping. I was out only for the shipping I incurred sending the item back.
Seeing where people were getting duped with adapter/power supplies that were closer to the price of one from Apple, only to find that they were sold a bill of goods, I decided to call Apple, and have them send me a new adapter that met my model's specs.
I would give this product a "no" stars rating, if I could. About the only thing I can say in their behalf is that they did refund my original purchase price and shipping, and I was only out my return shipping.
As they said in my economics class, "caveat emptor:" let the buyer beware. You are forewarned.
